Apprentice busy at boat school

Music and wooden boatbuilding go hand in hand for Melanya Nordstrom.
It's not only their mutual bond of carefully using one's fingers that she loves, but also the infinite creative possibilities the fingers can produce - and "seeing it evolve and take shape," she said.
This summer, the 18-year-old 2008 Chimacum High graduate's product of creativity is a 17-foot Whitehall wooden skiff under construction at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in Port Hadlock.
