Emily Peel, King County 4-H Washington State Teen Ambassador
Emily Peel, King County 4-H Washington State Teen Ambassador, talks about her club experiences over the past 8 years at the Sunday Pike Place Market. Emily Peel has been participating at the State Fair for seven years.
At 17, this King County 4-Her is eager to demonstrate her harp skills, exhibit rabbits and take part in the foods and clothing competition. Emily, along with every other 4-H youth at the State Fair, has already won the highest honor at the local county fair and will compete with the “best of the best” at the state level. Competition is not against peers but, rather, youth are judged by a set of standards. “I’m not normally very competitive but I like this type of competition because of the standards,” explained Emily. “I’m not competing against another person but, instead, I’m being judged on how well I’ve mastered a certain skill,” she added.
